One year he even grew 450 pumpkins that he donated to help folks celebrate Halloween.
One day his seven-year-old granddaughter was helping with the garden, and out of the blue asked, “why don’t we grow extra food and donate to others?” That’s when the idea was born to create a community garden where Captain Blaschke could explain to children where food comes, teach them how to grow it themselves, and then share the surplus with the Bristol Food Bank. He named the garden Charlotte Community Gardens after his granddaughter.
To begin, they started growing seeds in the basement. Captain Blaschke soon realized he needed a little help to keep the garden growing, so he reached out to Dilution Solutions/Dosatron to see if we could help sponsor the project. With our donation of a couple of Dosatron fertilizer injectors and hardware, along with other organizations pitching in, the Charlotte Community Garden is becoming a reality.
Their goal is to generate several hundred pounds of fresh vegetables for various 
families within the community and to the Bristol Food Bank. Currently, they are growing tomatoes, basil, corn, cucumbers, lettuce, and horseradish. He also has five apple trees and four pear trees.
Captain Blaschke is a busy man. Besides starting the community garden project, he’s a youth coach for the Bristol Boys and Girls Club, and he’s a Sr. Captain with the Bristol Fire Department.
It’s all about people helping people.
